Well, first of all, you gotta have sunscreen!

Tretinoin makes the skin much more sensitive to the sun so risking it without sunscreen is begging for hyperpigmentation and irritation.

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration!

You have to have a good moisturizer so that you keep your moisture barrier intact. Hydration is key because your skin will become very dry when you are on tretinoin. Look into including some hyaluronic acid as well as facial oils to up your moisture game even more.

Pause the use of all other actives in your routine

Pause use on all AHA’s, BHA’s, Benzoyl Peroxide, Vitamin C, Anti Oxidants, Azelaic Acid– you name it. This is the time to pare down your routine to the bare necessities of a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. This is so that you may minimise the chances of irritation. It won’t be a permanent hiatus- just for the first month or so until your skin gets used to the tretinoin.

Find your patience

Tret is a long-term gig- you will not see results in a day, or even a week. Though, well, you might see results, though maybe not the kind of results you wanted. Be patient with it and give it at least 3 months before expecting to see results.
